LMS Backup To Remote Server Solution

For $1500 we can install a remote backup solution for your LMS or other type of web site.

We have developed a script which enables an automated backup of database data and web site files to a remote server. We developed this script for a client who needed to backup a large (5000+ registrations) Moodle LMS site – both database data and their files.

Here are some of the features of our backup solution:

• developed for, tested and deployed on unix/linux based servers
• automated
• backup to remote server
• backup database file, incrementally – only tables that have changed are re-transferred
• backup site files, incrementally – only changed files are re-transferred
• “deleted” files are kept in a deleted-files section on the remote server for one week, in compressed format to save disk space (or keep the “inode” count down for certain types of hosting companies…)
• password-less ssh is used; we only “open” password-less ssh just prior to backup & then close it again immediately upon completion of backup
• email reports for successful backups (optional setting)
• email report if errors occur (e.g. backup could not complete due to a server being down, etc)

For the price quoted above, we install it on your servers, verify it’s operation, then we use the backup data to do a full restore to a completely fresh moodle install, to make sure the backup is restorable; a backup is only as good as the ability to restore it!
